At stake in the current talk of a foundering international order are at least two centuries of interrupted thinking and practicing multilateralism. In this talk Glenda Sluga will survey what it means to think of the transformation of the European order at the end of the Napoleonic wars, after 1815, as the same moment that invented an international order. Sluga will take a long view of what was lost (and who lost), what was gained, and the place of Europe in that international history.
