Konrad Burchardi promoted to Professor at IIES

Originally from Germany, Konrad joined the IIES in 2011 after completing his PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

His research studies the process of economic growth and the importance of social structure for international economic development. He is currently working on projects which seek to understand, both theoretically and empirically, the sources of resource misallocation and low aggregate productivity in developing countries.

He has published in several of the top 5 economics journals and in 2023 he received an ERC Consolidator Grant for the project "Agricultural Productivity and Technology Adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa (ADAPT)".
