New Assistant Professors. From left: Martin Koenen, Amalia Repele and Canishk Naik.
Martin Koenen (Harvard University) explores how social capital shapes economic outcomes, for instance by influencing where people live and how much they earn. In a second strand of work, he investigates the causes and consequences of political preferences and polarization.
Amalia Repele (Bocconi University) studies labor market inequalities and their relevance along and for business cycles, both theoretically and using micro data.
Canishk Naik (London School of Economics and Political Science - LSE) analyzes how governments should optimally provide assistance and social protection to help the most vulnerable in society meet their basic needs. His focus is on how psychological factors, including mental health and behavioural biases, shape behaviour and impact policy effectiveness.
