New graduate students at the IIES
Our most recent cohort conduct research in macro, applied micro, political and development economics and more.
Mohammad Naderitabar
- My research interests lie in macroeconomics and industrial organization. Currently, I am working on a project focused on Inattention, Portfolio Choice, and Wealth Inequality. Using a rational inattention framework, I aim to understand how differences in information affect consumption and saving behaviors, and how these behaviors, in turn, influence portfolio returns and contribute to wealth inequality. Additionally, I am developing collaborations and joint research projects exploring marriage markets and family dynamics within the macroeconomic literature.
- I chose to join the IIES because of its reputation in the field of macroeconomics. The vibrant academic environment at the IIES provides an ideal setting for advancing my research.
Artschil Okropiridse
- My research interests mostly lie within applied microeconomics. So far, my projects have touched upon political, labour, development, and behavioural economics. A common denominator in the questions that excite me is their connection to some aspect of power. I aim to address significant questions by combining simple theoretical frameworks with robust empirical analysis.
Currently, I am working on a project that investigates the impact of road networks on the spread of conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa, shedding light on how infrastructure can influence political and social stability.
- I chose to join the IIES because of its dynamic academic environment, characterized by an open-door policy, renowned faculty, and a collaborative community of fellow students. I am eager to contribute to and grow within this vibrant setting, participating in thought-provoking seminars and collaborative research endeavors.
Sofia Giovannetti
- My research interests primarily lie at the intersection of Industrial Organization and Macroeconomics. Specifically, I am interested in studying how the strategic interactions of firms affect aggregate economic outcomes. Currently, I am working on a project where I aim to understand the relationship between common ownership and innovation. Additionally, I am collaborating with a fellow IIES graduate student on a project examining the connection between product differentiation, markups, and the firm size distribution.
- I am excited to be a part of the IIES and for the opportunity to work close to outstanding researchers in macroeconomics. I also appreciate the close-knit environment that enables interactions with faculty and graduate students across a wide range of research areas.
Anton Arbman Hansing
- My main research interests are in political economy, particularly in the behavior of politicians and voters. Recently, I have been especially interested in the politics surrounding risks and disasters. In one of my current projects, I am exploring the political causes and consequences of the recent earthquake in Turkey.
- Having joined the IIES as an RA two years ago, I have come to see that it's a place with a special sense of community and intellectual curiosity. I am very happy to stay for the remainder of my PhD.
Ehsan Sabouri Kenari
- My research interests are in labor and development economics, with a focus on the unintended consequences of government policies in labor and housing markets. I utilize econometric and structural modeling techniques to estimate the causal effects of these policies and to quantify the mechanisms driving behavioral responses. I am currently working on two projects: one explores the impact of compulsory military service on men’s lifetime earnings, while the other examines how maternal labor supply influences children's human capital development.
- I have chosen the IIES because of its world-class faculty and the collaborative research environment. The opportunity to engage with experts in my field and contribute to policy-relevant economic research makes IIES the ideal place for me to continue my academic journey.
Leiv Storesletten
- I have a broad interest in macroeconomics with an emphasis on monetary policy.
One current project of mine is about how nominal capital gains taxes create additional distortions in the face of inflation.
