Short-term residence grant to develop project funding

The SWEDISH RESEARCH INSTITUTE IN ISTANBUL and the STOCKHOLM UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE FOR TURKISH STUDIES hereby announce one grant of 15 000 SEK for the year 2025 as part of a new research program aiming to contribute to the field of Turkish studies and strengthen academic cooperation between Sweden and Turkey.
The grant is awarded to scholars in human and social sciences with research focus on Turkey. The fellows are expected to develop a funding application for a research project intended to be placed at the Stockholm University Institute for Turkish Studies (SUITS) with tentative components like workshops or research stays at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul (SRII).
Grant holders will be considered fellows at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul for the period of one month and provided with a guest room and a workplace at the institute, free of costs. Apart from writing the funding application, the grant holder is expected to present the project idea at an internal seminar and deliver a brief report of the stay for the SRII bulletin.
The grant is open to PhD students (or scholars who merit themselves as such) or PhD holders.
- PhD students should include a timeline for their own graduation when they apply. Apart from that, applications for the grant should include the following:
- General idea for a research project to be placed at SUITS (about 1-2 pages)
- Proposed time plan for the submission of a project funding application
- Tentative funding bodies to which the application may be submitted
- CV, including a list of publications.
Project ideas that fall within the following categories are of particular interest:
- Turkish domestic politics and foreign/security policy
- EU-Turkey and Turkey-NATO relations
- Issues related to migration and integration
- Intersections of politics and culture
The research grant is supposed to cover the flight ticket and the daily costs for a stay of one month in Istanbul. It must be used during the specified period of time and will otherwise be refunded.
The application should be sent as ONE pdf-file, addressed to the Stockholm University Institute for Turkish Studies at (suits@suits.su.se). The submission deadline is October 31, 2024. Incomplete applications will not be considered for grants. Decisions will be announced by 24 November.
