CEST Summer School: Turkey’s Culture Wars
Consortium for European Symposia on Turkey held its 4th Summer School in Copenhagen
The 2025 summer school in Turin explored the construction and impact of cultural policies on Turkey’s society. The participants reflected on a variety of counter-movements from opposition municipalities, minority groups, and liberal arts institutions.

SUITS professor emerita Jenny White gave the keynote speech of the summer school titled “Beyond oppression and resistance: The transformative power of theory”, and postdoctoral researcher László Szerencsés held a workshop on “Writing beyond academia”.
CEST Summer Schools began in 2021 to support young Turkish studies scholars in developing essential academic skills, networking, and providing opportunities for mentorship and collaboration with senior scholars. The Consortium for European Symposia on Turkey is a group of Turkish studies researchers founded in 2015, and members alternate hosting Symposia and Summer Schools at their respective institutions.
