New partnership between SUITS and the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul

SUITS and SRII have created a new programme aimed at strengthening academic cooperation between Sweden and Turkey and contributing to the field of Turkish studies

The partnership between the Stockholm University Institute for Turkish Studies and the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul, started in 2024, will harness the strengths of the two institutions and will take a number of forms, including workshops, seminars, and residencies.

Two initiatives from 2024 have already shown some of the potential of the partnership. A grant-writing residency in Istanbul and supported by SUITS was announced this fall and will be an annual feature. The first residency has been awarded to Natia Gamkredlidze to develop her project on Turkey’s role in the Black Sea region. Additionally, SUITS and SRII co-sponsored a research seminar in Stockholm with Ümit Kurt on “Biographies of violence in the late Ottoman Empire”
