Healing after trauma, through identity re-integration

Seminar

Date: Friday 3 March 2023

Time: 14.00 – 15.30

Location: Library of the Institute of Latin American Studies (House B, Floor 5)

Ayeray Medina Bustos - PhD (Leeds Beckett University) and clinical psychologist (UCALP, Argentina) - NILAs research seminar

A main point of the seminar is that that the impact of a traumatic event could be so massive on individuals, and also on whole societies, that it might provoke an inability to represent the event through words and integrate the experiences in a narrative. However, some people can integrate the meanings of their past into ‘vehicles for memory’, through books, poems, films, paintings and monuments. The study use data from the interviews of the researchers PhD thesis and from work at the public trials of crimes against humanity in Argentina.

Ayeray Medina Bustos, PhD (Leeds Beckett University) and clinical psychologist (UCALP, Argentina). She is currently working as a lecturer regarding her research areas (post conflict societies and processes of justice in Latin America) and as a Spanish teacher in Sweden.
