The current development agendas prioritize the reduction or elimination of inequalities, a historical problem that affects all contemporary societies. Cuba has also taken up this challenge with reforms to its development model. To achieve this goal, it is not enough to maintain its traditional social policies; it must innovate towards critical universalism. In this sense, the configuration of local equity policies is addressed, an analytical perspective to capture the complexity of social change with respect to intervention in inequalities. After this analysis, recommendations were elaborated to promote these processes of social innovation, in pursuit of a more effective policy in the promotion of equity.

The research seminar on Latin American studies is open to scholars interested in Latin American issues. It welcomes the presentation of papers from researchers and PhD students from different social science disciplines. The seminar takes place on Fridays 14:00 – 15:30 every second week (odd numbers) at the Library of the Institute of Latin American Studies (House B, Floor 5).
