The Baltic Sea Centre hosts Stockholm University's marine infrastructure resources for everyone who wants to conduct research and education in the Baltic Proper. Our research station, the Askö laboratory, is located in the Trosa archipelago. This is where much of the knowledge we have today about the Baltic Sea comes from and where our state-of-the-art research vessel Electra af Askö, has its home port. We also support several national and regional marine environmental monitoring programmes with infrastructure, sampling and by making the data available via reports and websites. The monitoring data from Askö are among the oldest time series in the world.
SWERVE is a Swedish National Infrastructure and aims to provide enhanced access to vessel and data infrastructure for Swedish marine researchers and to support the training of a national network of marine technicians.
Exploration of coastal ecosystems at molecular level
A large expedition has arrived at Askö. The "Traversing European Coastlines Expedition" travels along Europe's coasts, stopping at selected sites to sample air, land and sea water.
Askö sets test scene for maritime robotics
Autonomous and accessible underwater robots can be groundbreaking in marine monitoring and research. In June, the Askö Laboratory hosted a test week for a new generation of robots from the innovation centre SMaRC.
Laying the foundation for our understanding of the Baltic Sea
A van full of sampling equipment leaves Stockholm University in the morning. Twelve hours later it returns, carrying hundreds of bottles, jars and test tubes filled with water from the Baltic Sea.

This year both prizes of the anual Dyrssen Award for to the two best Master's theses in the marine field goes to students at Stockholm University. The first prize goes to a study conducted at the Askö Laboratory.
Electra on major expedition to map Baltic Sea methane
Stockholm University's research vessel R/V Electra sets off across the Baltic Sea for a major multidisciplinary expedition, with researchers at the new CoastClim centre. Follow her journey live across the Baltic Sea!

The Murre Lab for seabird research on Stora Karlsö Island, Gotland
Stora Karlsö is famous for its huge colony of murres. The Baltic Sea Centre is responsible for the murre shelf on the island, where the pairs of birds nest. The shelf facilitates important seabird research.
