Politisk filosofi idag i Tidskrift för politisk filosofi
Torbjörn Tännsjö är född i Västerås 1946. 2002 tillträdde Tännsjö Kristian Claëson-professor i praktisk filosofi vid Stockholms universitet. Han har också varit föreståndare för avdelningen vid Stockholms universitet av Stockholm Centre for Health Care Ethics, CHE (ett samarbete mellan KI, KTH och SU), och även affilierad professor i medicinsk etik vid Karolinska Institutet sedan 2007, samt ledamot av Socialstyrelsen. 1995-2001 var han professor i praktisk filosofi vid Göteborgs universitet. Tidigare har han varit docent i samma ämne vid Stockholms universitet samt forskare i politisk filosofi vid Humanistisk-Samhällsvetenskapliga Forskningsrådet. Under höstterminen 2008 var han knuten som forskare till the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study. Han är sedan 2014 emeriterad professor i praktisk filosofi vid Stockholms universitet.
Tännsjö har ett omfattande filosofiskt författarskap på engelska och svenska, publicerat i olika facktidskrifter. Han är också en flitig deltagare i den offentliga debatten i vårt land kring medicinskt etiska och politiskt filosofiska frågor. I ett populärvetenskapligt föredrag introducerar han frågor kring dödandets filosofi. Föredraget är tillgängligt här. Tännsjö är ledamot av Socialstyrelsens etiska råd samt det etiska rådet vid Karolinska Institutet och han är vetenskapligt råd vid Kriminalvården, sitter i redaktionskommittéerna för flera tidskrifter Han satt i styrelsen för etikprogrammet vid Oslo universitet fram till dess nedläggning 2011.
Hans mest aktuella bok på svenska är del två ”Etikprofessorn” av hans intellektuella memoarer.

Torbjörn Tännsjös breda engagemang och orädda åsikter har gjort honom till en välkänd, men ofta omstridd, röst i den svenska debatten. Här fördjupar och nyanserar han sina resonemang i flera känsliga frågor och ger sin syn på kontroverserna och vänskaperna under sin tid som Sveriges Etikprofessor.
Hans filosofiska resonemang i frågor som abort, dödshjälp och idrott har ibland lett fram till svåra slutsatser – som kan vara obekväma även för honom själv. Motståndet har inte fått honom att backa – trots partiledares krav på avgång och yrkesförbud.
Etikprofessorn tar avstamp i Torbjörn Tännsjös arbete som professor i praktisk filosofi och är den andra delen av hans memoarer.
