English comparative clauses have long been recognized to have a syntactic structure very similar to that of wh-questions. Less widely appreciated have been the semantic similarities between the two constructions. In this talk I explore a striking array of parallels in the domains of scope, binding, cumulativity, and quantificational variability, with an eye toward what embedded questions might have to teach us about the curious behavior of quantifiers in comparative than-clauses.
