Recent years have witnessed a strong revival of cognitist non-naturalism in meta-ethics. Non-naturalists have claimed that naturalism, cognitive and expressivist forms alike, simply misses the idea of robust normativity found in ethics. I consider an influential form of this claim, Derek Parfit's in On What Matters, vol. 2, and argue that the seeming opposition it portrays of non-naturalism and naturalism obscures the underlying dialectic.
