This course will be devoted to a close study of a recent influential work in metaethics, namely Derek Parfit’s On What Matters, vol. 3 (OUP, 2016). The format of the course is a series of seminars. Students are expected to participate actively in discussions and to have read the relevant texts for each meeting. The course requirements are an oral introductory presentation and an essay of roughly 3000 words, to be submitted when the course is finished.
