Intentionality is the capacity to represent something or other, and involves having linguistic meaning or mental content. This course will focus on the 'hard problem' of intentionality (analogous to the hard problem of consciousness). Can intentionality be reductively explained in non-semantic, non-intentional terms? Do the semantic facts supervene on the non-semantic facts? We will look at both classic and contemporary texts addressing these and related questions.
