Om mig

I am a PhD student of Katharina Pawlowski group together with Marco Guedes Salgado, working on the symbiosis of nitrogen fixating bacteria Frankia and actinorhizal plants.

Actinobacteria of the genus Frankia engage in symbiosis with actinorhizal plants, a diverse group which has members in 8 different families within the orders Cucurbitales, Fagales, and Rosales. Phylogenetically Frankia can be divided into 4 different clusters, of which member from cluster IV do not engage in symbiosis. The evolution of Frankia cluster II and its host plants is of our particular interest. Current phylogenetic research indicates this cluster is the most basal of all four Frankia clusters. In addition, recent advances in origin of root nodule symbiosis, suggest the common ancestor of the nitrogen fixing clade (actinorhizal plants, legumes, and all lineages which lost symbiotic trait). By investigating Frankia cluster II - actinorhizal symbiosis, we hope to get more insights into genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying the capability of this symbiosis.

Outside of my research projects, I also have been involved in teaching in courses given at SU. These courses include Plant Physiology and Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, as well as individual master project supervision.
