Sammanfattning (på engelska)

In this talk, Sabine Sczesny will present results from three research projects that examined change and universality of gender stereotypes across time and cultures. The first project examined the content of gender stereotypes in representative opinion polls in the U.S., spanning over seven decades; the second project examined gender stereotypes in two representative public opinion polls in 22 and 40 nation surveys; the third project investigated the alignment of gender stereotypes with social status beliefs – gender status norms – in seven nations. The results provide new insights of how gender stereotypes are changing when societies are progressing towards more gender equality, and identify subtle barriers toward gender equality progress in relatively high gender-equal nations (like Sweden).
