We follow the university’s environmental policy and contribute to the implementation of set environmental goals and action plans. You can find the environmental policy for SU below. We also manage, and annually update, an environmental policy on our local level. You can find the latest local environmental policy below as well. Below you will find some informative tips to living and working in a climate friendly manner.

Reduce your climate impact at work and at home?

While contributing to a better future for humans and animals, you can get more fit, healthy and save money at the same time! Test your personal impact here and see and find out what you can do: impact.babetteporcelijn.com/en/#/ (NB! The website takes a long time to load!)

Let’s work together in order to create a more climate friendly work environment!

Here are some examples of what you can integrate into your life:

Activity Personal gain Gain for climate (=U2)
Cycle (walk/run) to work Health benefits! Every ride contributes to a fitter, healthier body and brain!
Saving money! No public transport or fuel expenses
Less CO2 emissions and thus contribute in the prevention of: extreme weather, food disruptions, wildfires, polluted air.
Work from home Saving time! Saving money! No public transport or fuel expenses. Less CO2 emissions.
Recycle at work/home Health benefits! Every time you walk to the recycling room you will take a few extra steps (we need about 18.000 per day!!) Every step contributes to a fitter, healthier body and brain! Less CO2 emissions. Recycling a single glass bottle for example means a 20% reduction in air pollution or 50% reduction in water pollution.
Buy or sell second hand, at work/home Saving money! Making money! Less CO2 emissions. It can save about 2531 litres water and 21 kg CO2 per garment, and WAY more when it concerns electronic products.
Travel by train, avoid flying Experiences! You literally see more of the world. Stay connected! You retain internet access. Unlimited luggage! Saving time! Travelling at night. Arrive in city centre. Look at this presentation with practical tips on going by train when on duty. Less CO2 emissions. Train traveling for example is twice as low compared to flying.
Eat more vegetarian (and less meat) Explore new easy-to-make dishes. Whether you love cooking or not, introducing more vegetarian products into your diet can be easy. Check out deliciouslyella.com or www.hotforfoodblog.com for inspiration or ask Marta for more. Increase your vitamin and fibre intake. Give your body a boost! You can substantially decrease your water footprint by eating less meat. foodprint.org/issues/the-water-footprint-of-food/ has a lot of interesting info about our water footprint (or shall we say, foodprint?)
