Insurance Medicine All Sweden (IMAS)

IMAS is an interdisciplinary research project based on Swedish register data on more than 14 million people over several generations. The aim of the project is to generate knowledge about different aspects of sickness absence and disability pension.

Data from IMAS are used in studies on, for example:

  • risk factors for sickness absence and disability pension
  • consequences of being on sick leave or receiving disability pension
  • what factors prevents or promotes return to work.

These questions can be studied:

  • in general
  • for different diagnoses
  • for different occupational groups
  • for people in different life situations.

Various methodical studies are also carried out within the project.

Data in IMAS

IMAS includes linked microdata for 8 different cohorts from different time periods. The project covers a total of 14 million people over several generations, some of whom are deceased or have emigrated. The data comes from several nationwide registers kept by Statistics Sweden, the National Board of Health and Welfare, the Social Insurance Agency and Region Stockholm.
