Conference about the future of survey and register research

In September, REWHARD organised its second user conference, RewhardNet 2025. This year's conference focused on the future of survey and register research. Among the guests were representatives from the National Board of Health and Welfare.

Technological development and changes in regulations at European level may present both opportunities and challenges for research in the future. Response rates in surveys, the European Health Data Space Regulation (EHDS) and machine learning were therefore the focus of this year's conference. An overview of current research based on the infrastructure was also presented.

Several inspiring talks

The conference was attended by Naja Hulvej Rod from the University of Copenhagen, who spoke about how to understand the complex health challenges of our time. Sebastian Lundmark from the SOM Institute in Gothenburg and Martin Hällsten from the Swedish Institute for Social Research presented different perspectives on attempts to get more people to respond to surveys. The conference also provided insight into the opportunities and challenges of machine learning in register-based research. Furthermore, the National Board of Health and Welfare reported on the agency's work to reduce waiting times for register data and on the new EU regulation EHDS.

Will be held again next year

RewhardNet 2025 was held at Campus Albano in Stockholm on 8–9 September. Existing and new users of the infrastructure were invited to the conference. The participants came from 16 different universities and government agencies. Next year's user conference is planned to be held on 7–8 September 2026.

REWHARD – Enabling research about people's living conditions and health

REWHARD is a national infrastructure for research on social relations, work and health across the life course. We coordinate research data on, among other things, education, family situation, working conditions, health behaviours, diseases and sick leave for the Swedish population. REWHARD contains high-quality data with a long-term perspective and for a total of more than 14 million people.

REWHARD is a collaboration between Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet, with partial funding from the Swedish Research Council (VR).
