Literary anthropology is the study of the role of literature in society focusing on literary texts as ethnographic source material and/or literary production. Literary work that circulates from national to global contexts is conceptualized as ‘world literature’. Funded by the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, the interdisciplinary programme “Cosmopolitan and Vernacular Dynamics in World Literatures” (www.worldlit.se) explores themes as diverse as travel literature, African women writers, digital media and feminism, and migrant fiction.
