Nicole Kaiser is staying at SOFI for an internship of 10 weeks (april-june) in the SUNSTRAT project. Nicole is a master student in social economics at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuernberg, and her interests are within labor market and education research.
March 2012
Marco Albertini from University of Bologna visits SOFI within the SUNSTRAT-project during march. He is researching intergenerational co-residency and will, during his stay at SOFI, work together with Juho Härkönen and Michael Gähler to investigate the potential effects of children’s divorce on intergenerational co-residency in Sweden. He will also investigate demographic and economic characteristics affecting the likelihood of re-entering the parental home after divorce.

December 2011
December 12-13 SUNSTRAT will be hosting its yearly workshop at Stockholm University. Members of our research team, reference group and scientific advisory board and other invited researchers will be attending. The presentations are open to everyone. The workshop will be held at Stockholm University, at the geo-science building (Geovetenskapens hus). The program can be found below.

September 2011
Sara Kjellsson starts a 4 year doctoral position within the SUNSTRAT project in September 2011. Kjellsson has previously been a research assistant at SUNSTRAT and got her undergraduate degree from the Department of Sociology at Stockholm University. She will be attending the doctoral program at the Department of Sociology and is also attending the SIMSAM Interdisciplinary Graduate School (SINGS).
SUNSTRAT is launching a guest research program in order for researchers outside Stockholm University to come and work within our project for a period of around one to six months. Our aim is to attract researchers experienced in quantitative methods and with an interest in the research field of social stratification. For more information, see Guest Research Program information
June 2011
Fabian Pfeffer from Institute for Social Research, University of
Michigan visits SOFI within the SUNSTRAT-project during june 20th and July 1st, 2011. His research focuses on intergenerational mobility, educational inequality, and cross-national comparisons. At SOFI, he will work with Martin Hällsten on a study of the effects of parents' wealth on their children's outcomes drawing on Swedish register data. This extends his dissertation work that compared intergenerational wealth effects between the United States and Germany.
Workshop on Poverty and Income Inequality
June 15-16 SUNSTRAT hosts a workshop at Stockholm University on poverty and income inequality, bringing together members of our research team, reference group and scientific advisory board and other invited researchers. In December 14-15 SUNSTRAT organizes the workshop Social stratification dynamics where most of our research team, reference group and scientific advisory board will participate. We are very pleased with the program and are looking forward to an exciting workshop. The venue is Juristernas Hus located up to the right approximately 60 meters when walking from the subway station "Universitetet". The presentations are open for all and some highlights are the presentations of the key note speakers Brian Nolan from University College Dublin and David Grusky from Stanford University. September 2010
Maarten Buis from University of Tuebingen visits SOFI within the SUNSTRAT-project during september. He is researching the impact of demographic processes, like differential fertility and homogamy, on educational inequality. During his stay at SOFI, he will extend his analysis including Swedish data into his research.
Are Skeie Hermansen joins SUNSTRAT in September 2010. Hermansen got his Master degree from University of Oslo and will start a 4 year doctoral position within the SUNSTRAT project. He will be attending the doctoral program at the Department of Sociology.
Martin Hällsten joins SUNSTRAT as a postdoc in the fall 2010. Hällsten defended his dissertation "Essays on Social Reproduction and Lifelong Learning" in April 2010.

Carina Mood starts her two-year SUNSTRAT postdoc position and will be continuing her work on contextual effects on welfare receipt and poverty in Sweden. Mood got her PhD in Sociology from Stockholm university in 2006.

On Wednesday 23 September, SUNSTRAT hosts a workshop on Top incomes and Elites. Participants are economists and sociologists from Universities in Gothenburg, Stirling, Oslo, and Stockholm. More information on the program here:

SUNSTRAT are pleased to welcome Juho Härkönen to our research team. Härkönen joins the project as a research fellow and he will share his time between the SUNSTRAT project and the SUNDEM project. Härkönen is a sociologist and has had a postdoctoral position at CIQLE, Yale University. His research focus, among other things, upon the link between family and social stratification.

SUNSTRAT are pleased to welcome Yvonne Åberg to our research team. Åberg Is presently a research fellow at SOFI and will start her position in the SUNSTRAT project after the summer. Åberg is a sociologist, and holds a position at the Singapore Management University. Before that she held a postdoc position at Nuffield College, Oxford University. Åberg is a graduate from the Department of Sociology at the Stockholm University and her research is mostly based on register data and focused foremost on social networks and contextual effects.
