Background

Many web sites use certificates to encrypt traffic between clients (your devices) and servers. For eduroam a certificate is used to encrypt the login data between your device (phone, computer, tablet etc.) and the University’s login server.

The certificates are valid for a limited time (usually a few years) and when they expire you have to install a new one to still be able to connect to the service. The new certificate for eduroam will be installed on January 12.

What’s the impact for me?

If you haven’t used the automatic settings to set up eduroam you need to do that now on all your devices (phones, tablets, computers) so that you can keep using the eduroam WiFi. This applies both to students and employees. You have to do it before February 25, but why wait and risk forgetting?

After you've done this, you will be able to keep connecting to eduroam as usual.

If you're using SU Workstation Mac you will find the automatic settings in Self Service, and if you're using SU Workstation Windows you will find them in the INFO folder on your computer desktop.

For computers not related to SU Workstation and mobile devices all the nessecary information can be found in Serviceportalen.

If you have a device that does not support automatic configuration, you will have to accept a new certificate. This applies mainly to Linux or Android users and most typically you will get a pop-up window where you can accept the certificate.

If you used the automatic settings when you installed eduroam you don’t have to do anything now.
