Stockholm University's policy for Green IT aims to make operations more energy and resource-efficient, and to contribute to a toxin-free environment. This policy determines how work with Green IT is to be conducted at Stockholm University.

Green IT focuses on how IT solutions and IT infrastructure can help reduce environmental impact by optimising, or completely replacing, current processes and behaviour, to the benefit of both the environment and the economy.

Work with Green IT is part of the University's efforts to become environmentally-certified and is designed to make the organisation more energy and resource-efficient, and to contribute to a toxin-free environment.

The services that IT Services provides should be designed in such a way that they meet the environmental requirements laid down in internal policy documents, as well as the environmental requirements of the University as a governmental authority.

Employees at Stockholm University should:
work to ensure that the environment and sustainable development are taken into account in decisions regarding the acquisition, use of and decommissioning of IT products, solutions and infrastructure

endeavour to procure and use IT products and solutions that in themselves are energy and environmentally-efficient in order to contribute to a more environmentally-friendly organisation.

ensure that suppliers take into account environmental requirements into the evaluation criteria when purchasing new IT products and solutions

ensure that a used option is considered when purchasing IT-related products, in order to extend product life-cycles and thus reduce environmental impact and waste of natural resources

promote a toxin-free working environment by consideration of the amount of hazardous substances in the products during the procurement of IT-related equipment. This also reduces the environmental impact of the production and recycling of equipment

endeavour to use IT solutions and infrastructure to effectively reduce the environmental impact of the organisation as a whole

utilise support and IT solutions for video-meetings and video-conferencing in order to reduce work-related travel by air and road

work to ensure that reclamation, reuse and recycling of IT-related equipment is practiced

utilise to the greatest extent possible the university-wide services that the IT department provides in order to ensure that appropriate environmental standards are met
