Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor has primary responsibility for Stockholm University´s environmental work and adopts the University´s environmental policy, the environmental targets and environmental action plan, environmental reporting, and other documents within the environmental management system when necessary.  The Vice-Chancellor appoints the management´s representative and chairman of the Environmental Council as well as representatives of the faculty. The Vice-Chancellor ensures that the University that the University-wide procedures and instructions are complied with, that the established environmental targets are attained and that the environmental action plan is implemented.

Environmental Council

The Environmental Council is responsible for developing, maintaining and documenting the environmental management system of Stockholm University and coordinating and managing the environmental work. The Environmental Council is also responsible for reporting on the environmental management system’s performance and proposals for improvements to the University management.

Furthermore, the Environmental Council is responsible for the preparation, adoption and revision of University-wide policy documents within the environmental management system such as procedures and guidelines or similar, but also for preparing proposals for documents of fundamental importance that will be adopted by the Vice-Chancellor.

The chairman of the Environmental Council is the management's representative.

Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Administration

The Vice-Chancellor has the responsibility to ensure, within the framework of the area council’s operations, that the environmental management system is implemented, maintained and monitored at the area council, faculty and departmental level.  The Vice-Chancellor is also responsible for nominating members of the faculty for the Environmental Council and appointing the environmental organisers of the faculties.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor , within the framework of faculty-wide operations, is responsible for ensuring that the environmental management system is implemented, maintained and monitored in the faculty-wide units. The Pro Vice-Chancellor is also responsible for appointing the environmental organisers of faculty-wide operations.

The Director of Administration, within the framework of the administration's operations, is responsible for ensuring that the environmental management system is implemented, maintained and monitored in the units. The Director of Administration is also responsible for appointing the administration’s environmental organisers.

The Vice-Chancellor can choose to delegate his/her responsibility to faculty deans. Similarly, the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Administration can choose to delegate their responsibility.

The Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Administration ensure that necessary funds and resources are appropriated for the environmental work and monitor that the University's environmental policy, environmental targets and action plan, as well as significant environmental aspects, are considered within the operations of the area council and faculties (equivalent).  Furthermore, they monitor compliance with University-wide procedures and instructions as well as applicable environmental legislation. 

Head of Departments (equivalent)

The Head of Department (equivalent) has primary responsibility for the environmental work of Stockholm University at the departmental level (equivalent).

The Head of Department (equivalent) appoints the department’s environmental representative (equivalent). The Head of Department (equivalent) ensures that the department (equivalent) complies with University-wide procedures and instructions within the framework of the environmental management system as well as the University's environmental policy, agreed environmental targets and action plan.

The Head of Department (equivalent) also ensures that the department (equivalent) complies with applicable environmental legislation and other environmental requirements and conducts internal checks of the operations from an environmental perspective.

The Head of Department (equivalent) is responsible for preparation and implementation of the agreed environmental targets and action plan of the department (equivalent) so that the environmental work, environmental targets and action plan are continuously revised.

The Head of Department (equivalent) is responsible for ensuring that problems and deficiencies, as well as improvement proposals within environmental work, are managed at the department (equivalent), and that corrective and preventative measures are taken and documented.

Environmental Coordinator (swedish: Miljökoordinator)

The Environmental Coordinator is an Environmental Council official and coordinates the University's environmental work and comprises support for the Environmental Organiser of the faculties (equivalent) and the environmental representatives of the departments (equivalent).

The Environmental Coordinator should report to the Environmental Council  on the progress of the University's environmental work.

The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for preparing and recording documentation within the framework of the environmental management system for the Environmental Council and Vice-Chancellor reporting.

The Environmental Coordinator is also responsible for developing and maintaining the University's environmental handbook, organising environmental training for staff as well as courses on internal audits.

Furthermore, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for planning internal and external environmental audits.

The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for administering the handling of feedback received on the environmental work from students and private individuals,  and for handling environmental improvement proposals from employees, students and private individuals.  The Environmental Coordinator is also partly responsible for the administration of reported problems and deficiencies in the environmental work from departments (equivalent).

Environmental Administrator (swedish: Miljöhandläggare)

The Environmental Administrator is responsible for administering and coordinating compliance with environmental legislation and ensuring that the University has an updated shared law list of environmental legislation.

Environmental organisers (Swedish: miljösamordnare)

Environmental organisers are responsible for organising implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the environmental management system at the departments (equivalent) of the faculties (equivalent) and informing environmental representatives of latest news/changes and improvements within environmental work.

Environmental organisers are also responsible for compiling reported and documented problems and deficiencies, improvement proposals, as well as corrective and preventative measures from departments (equivalent).

Environmental organisers manage the planning and are responsible for ensuring that necessary supporting material is prepared for internal and external environmental audits at the faculties (equivalent) and their departments (equivalent).

Environmental organisers should serve as contact persons and support for departments (equivalent) in terms of the environmental management system and administering reported problems and deficiencies as well as improvement proposals at the faculty level (equivalent) within environmental work. 

The Environmental Organiser should be the reporter of the faculty management (equivalent) and report on progress of the environmental work of the faculty (equivalent) .

The Environmental Organiser collaborates with the other environmental organisers at Stockholm University.

Environmental Representative (Swedish: Miljörepresentant)

The Environmental Representative is responsible for coordinating and managing the environmental work within the department (equivalent) and informing employees on latest news/changes and how the environmental work is improving.

The Environmental Representative is also responsible for compiling the annual report of the environmental work of the department (equivalent) and for planning and preparing supporting material for internal and external environmental audits.

The Environmental Representative serves as support for environmental work to the Head of Department (equivalent) on how the operational environmental work is progressing.

The Environmental Representative collaborates with other environmental representatives at the faculty (equivalent) and the environmental organisers of the faculties (equivalent).

Employees and research students (Swedish: Medarbetare och forskarstuderande)

All employees and research students should be aware of the University's environmental policy, be aware of and comply with University-wide procedures and instructions within the framework of the environmental management system related to their own work.

All employees and research students should also contribute to implementation of the University's environmental action plan and the environmental action plan of their own department (equivalent).
