General information about the Nordic Centre in Shanghai

The Nordic Centre in Shanghai was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Fudan University, Nordic Institute of Asian Studies (NIAS), and 27 Nordic universities in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.


Nordic Centre – main tasks:

  • Act as a platform for initiating and developing research, study programmes, conferences, workshops, and other activities of mutual interest to Nordic and Chinese scholars;
  • Organise courses and programmes for Nordic business people based in Shanghai;
  • Provide courses and programmes to Chinese students and researchers who wish to pursue studies of the Nordic countries, and to Nordic students and researchers who wish to pursue studies of China;
  • Participate in cultural events, such as national days, concerts, and movie nights in order to promote Nordic universities and countries.

Research

The Nordic Centre can help with the following:

  • Organise meetings, conferences, seminars, and workshops;
  • Provide office space for visiting researchers from member universities;
  • Provide a library with books and journals about China and the Nordic countries;
  • Promote different research networks;
  • Provide some level of funding.

Courses
