1. Contact your Head of Department/Manager

Inform your Head of Department/Manager about the situation and discuss how to best implement the following  routines.
 

2. Talk to the student

  • Talk to the student to find out how he/she is feeling.
  • Find out where and at what times the student has been on campus.
  • Make sure the student knows of the counselling and support offered by Student Health Services. For contact details, refer to https://www.su.se/utbildning/din-hälsa/studenthälsan
  • Ask how the student feels about the University sharing his/her name with the Head of Security and Region Stockholm (NB! This is completely voluntary).
     

3. Contact the Head of Security

Contact the University’s Head of Security, Nellie Grenius by e-mail: nellie.grenius@su.se or by telephone: 08 16 11 51 to report that a student has tested positive for Covid-19. Our contacts with Region Stockholm in matters relating to infection control are handled solely by the University’s Head of Security, not by individual members of staff or institutions. You must never reveal the name of the infected student unless prior consent has been obtained. Please proceed with caution when handling personal data. 1.
 

4.    Other actions

Other actions and management of information must take place in consultation with the Head of Security. Examples of such actions include:

  • Consider how to inform your colleagues – verbally or in writing. 
    Whether or not to inform your colleagues depends on how the infected student has interacted with the staff. A suggested wording is ‘It has come to my knowledge that one of the students at the [department] has tested positive for Covid-19. I need therefore to inform you that you may have come into contact with the student in question and that you may have been exposed to a risk of infection. Please be extra vigilant for any symptoms over the next 14 days and please observe social distancing. In case of any symptoms, stay at home and contact your healthcare provider for advice on possible testing.’
     
  • Consider how to inform your students – verbally or in writing, as outlined above.
    Students who need help in dealing with their worries about the coronavirus are welcome to contact Student Health Services. Students with questions about the disease should be advised to call 1177 or contact a healthcare centre/clinic.
     
  • Consider contacting the University’s Press Office. 
    Contact the Press Office by sending an e-mail to press@su.se if you believe there is a risk of media attention. This applies, for example, if there is reason to assume that the student has contracted Covid-19 during an activity arranged by the University, e.g. a written examination in an examination hall, excursion, laboratory work or similar.
     
  • Assess the need for further actions, preferably in consultation with the Head of Security. For example:
    –    Is further cleaning of the premises required?
    –    Should the teaching be conducted at a distance over the next few weeks?
     

If you, as a member of staff, are contacted by a student who has not spent time on campus but been tested positive for Covid-19

1.    Talk to the student to find out how he/she is feeling.
2.    Students with questions about the coronavirus should be advised to call 1177 or contact a healthcare centre/clinic. Student Health Services offer individual counselling and support to better cope with Covid-19 related anxiety and concerns.
 

You must not do any of the following when a student has tested positive for Covid-19

–    As education providers, we do not offer coronavirus testing to our students and recommend those who would like to be tested to contact the National Health Service, 1177.

–    As education providers, we do not carry out contact tracing. This lies within the operational framework of the National Health Service. Information about contact tracing can be found here.

–    Since none of the activities conducted at Stockholm University involve dealing directly with the new coronavirus or caring for Covid-19 patients/users, it is not classified as a serious incident/occupational illness if a member of staff is tested positive. Consequently, it is not necessary to report such an incident/occupational illness in the University’s reporting system for work environment and environment (SAMIR).
