A Doctoral degree

A Doctoral degree is awarded after the candidate has completed studies amounting to 240 credits in a research study subject. For the doctoral degree, the candidate should have an approved academic dissertation (doctoral thesis) of at least 120 credits. The coursework may therefore amount to a maximum of 120 credits.

A Licentiate degree

A licentiate degree is awarded either after the candidate has completed studies amounting to at least 120 credits in a research study subject or after the candidate has completed a minimum of 120 credits of part of a course concluding with a doctoral degree if the university decides that such a licentiate degree can be taken at the university. For the licentiate degree, the candidate must have had an academic paper of at least 60 credits approved.

Applying for diploma

Before you submit the application, please make sure that all transferred courses and credits are reported in Ladok. The diploma is issued in one original only, and must therefore be treated as a valuable document. If the original is lost, Student Services can only arrange to provide a copy.

The processing period for a doctoral degree is currently approximately one month, provided the application submitted is complete. You can apply by using the online application via My Studies or you can fill in and submit the application form below and send it to examen@su.se
