In 2005, the European Commission issued a recommendation to adhere to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, Charter & Code. Stockholm University already complies with most of the principles in the charter today, although there are areas where the university can further develop. A certification process contributes constructively to this work.

The award serves as a quality mark for international recruitment. By being certified and implementing the charter, the university strengthens its position as an employer that applies fair and transparent recruitment and assessment procedures, fosters a good working environment, provides clear career paths, and continually strives to develop these. The award also facilitates research applications and may become a requirement for European research funding applications.

What happens next at the university?

The work marks the beginning of a multi-year process that will be regularly evaluated by the EU.

The project group is currently working on conducting a so-called GAP analysis to assess the areas in which the university needs to develop and improve in order to comply with the Charter & Code. This work is based on the EU Commission's tool, HR Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R).

During the GAP analysis, representatives from all levels in the university's research group will be involved.

The project leaders for this work are professors Gunnar Svensson and Mats Börjesson.
