“The purpose of Stockholm Dual Career Network is to facilitate for accompanying partners of international researchers to continue their own careers in Stockholm. A number of companies with high rate of international staff has joined the network too. The idea is to make the whole family feel welcome and at home when starting their new lives here”, Maria Fogelström Kylberg says. She is CEO at Stockholm Academic Forum, the organization behind the Stockholm Dual Career Network (SDCN), a non-profit network for expat partners in Stockholm. Stockholm University is a member of Stockholm Academic Forum along with the City of Stockholm and the other 17 universities and higher education institutions in Stockholm.

“SDCN has two regular activities each week – a career support group and a Swedish language café. The career support group is like an open house where you can work on your applications and your CV, get some advice on job interviews etc and also meet fellow expat partners. We also offer a great mentorship programme together with the City of Stockholm this autumn”, Maria Fogelström Kylberg says.

“The network has a lot of social activities as well. A cycling tour, fikas, walking tours and so on. Activities with the aim to help the accompanying partner to build a social network of their own.”

Accompanying partners to Stockholm University employees (including doctoral students’ partners) are welcome to register as an SDCN member, for free, to participate in the network’s activities. Companies affiliated to the network are, among others, Electrolux, Northvolt and Spotify.

“The network has been a success since the start in 2015. When we look at our statistics we can see that four out of five members get a qualified job within a year”, Maria Fogelström Kylberg says.
