“The European university alliance Civis started in 2019 and has this autumn entered a consolidation phase with another four years of funding from the European Commission. From the start, the focus for Civis is on education, but in order to broaden the work within Civis, the project RIS4CIVIS (Research and Innovation Strategy for Civis) started in the spring of 2021. The focus of the project is, as the name indicates, to develop the work within Civis in terms of research and innovation. RIS4CIVIS is now in a phase where different "case studies" are to be tested.”

What is Stockholm University’s part in the work?

“RIS4CIVIS is organized in six modules with the task of establishing cooperation within different themes. Stockholm University is responsible for one of the six modules – to develop a common research and innovation strategy – and also for the entire work package 3, which involves conducting one to several "case studies" per module.”

“To give extra energy to the work, participants from all modules gathered for a series of physical meetings at Stockholm University during the period 17-21 October this year. Cross-meetings between modules were also carried out. In total, almost 50 people from all Civis universities participated in a total of around 16 meetings and workshops.”

Why should researchers get involved in Civis and RIS4CIVIS?

“For teachers and researchers at Stockholm University, there are good opportunities to develop collaborations both in education and research and to meet colleagues at other Civis universities. A number of collaborations have already been started, and networks have been created, which can provide new impulses and perspectives.”

“Exchange opportunities are strengthened through Civis and many students as well as staff have already been visited other Civis universities for studies or other activities. The university has also strengthened the support at the Office of the President and at the Student Office for those who want to get involved in Civis. If you as a teacher or researcher have questions about Civis, please email civis@su.se.”

How is the work progressing onwards?

“By autumn 2023, the RIS4CIVIS project will be completed and the experiences from the project will be integrated into Civis. Another integration measure is that the management group for RIS4CIVIS, of which I am part as Deputy Vice President, is now forming a "Research council" within the management structure for Civis.”
