Who is eligible?

International guest researchers and doctoral students (Post Docs and PhD students) arriving to Sweden are eligible to apply for housing. Researchers with a permanent position at Stockholm University are not eligible to apply. Housing contracts can be offered within the first six months from the start date of your occupation/studies at Stockholm University.
International undergraduate students on a Masters or Bachelor level are referred to housing for international students.

Apply for accommodation

A housing application is made in online booking system. Complete your application with personal details, housing preferences, and documents including Certificate for housing application (390 Kb) and valid photo-ID. Once you have completed all steps, the application will be placed in our housing queue and accommodations will be offered accordingly.

You are welcome to bring partner or family in our housing. In your housing application make sure to avoid shared housing if you plan to bring your partner or family.

Rental period

The housing is intended for temporary stays only and not for researchers holding permanent positions.

  • The minimum rental period for housing is three months except for Docentbacken where the minimum rental period is six months.
  • The maximum rental period for all housing areas is one year.

Housing queue

Once you have submitted your application, it is placed in our housing queue. The waiting time for receiving an offer depends on many factors, such as requested accommodation size, housing area, rent level, or time of year. The more preferences you add, the better chance you have receiving an offer. Demand for accommodation is high and most applicants receive an offer within six months. However, there is no housing guarantee.

Housing offer

If housing of your preference is available you will receive a housing offer, usually a few months before your arrival. The offer needs to be accepted or declined within the given deadline; usually 3–5 days. Please check your emails frequently.
Please note that you will receive a maximum of two offers. If you decline your second offer you will be removed from the housing queue. Make sure you chose your preferences thoroughly.
