These are the research questions that Natalie Nielsen studied in her thesis “The Erasmus learning journey – Students’ experiences from a mobility period abroad”, presented in 2020 with the aim to gain knowledge and understanding of students’ learning through a mobility period abroad.
The data are based on semi-structured interviews with 45 Erasmus alumni from Stockholm University who participated in an Erasmus exchange during the years 2013-2014. The study examines students’ motives, experiences and self-reported outcomes of participation in the Erasmus program.

Natalie Nielsen received her PhD at the Department of Education at Stockholm University, where she has been researching international mobility programmes and their impact on personal development and learning.
