The Ethics support function at the Office for Research, Engagement and Innovation Services and the Student Office, have jointly drafted a guide aimed at employees responsible for handling studies, field work, internships or research abroad. The aim is to protect students, employees and others affected by the research or the studies, to safeguard good research practice and ensure the credibility and reputation of the university as an institution of research and education.

The guide aims to offer support and advice for challenging situations and to clarify the procedures which the university has implemented to ensure safer stays abroad, for students and employees. In principle, a risk assessment should always be conducted before the stay abroad. Responsibility for ensuring this, lies with the Head of Department.  A department needs to be prepared to manage risk and to deal with ethical considerations before, as well as during and after the stay. A department also needs to clarify which procedures have been put in place in the event of a crisis situation.

The guide highlights many different types of issues that may arise, including inappropriate work tasks, handling of data, demands made by funding parties or host institutions and the importance of sufficient insurance coverage by Kammarkollegiet, the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency. The guide includes a checklist and the aim is to increase awareness of how dangerous situations and ethical challenges can be minimized during research or studies abroad.

The seminar will be held in English.
