Since the summer of 2019, Stockholm University has been a member of the CIVIS collaboration – European Civic University Alliance – which brings together students and employees at eight universities in Europe.
As Scottish University of Glasgow now becomes an associate partner of CIVIS, this means that the collaboration within the alliance brings together around 450,000 students and 65,000 employees in Europe.

“The University of Glasgow is a strong and broad research university with many international educations, which has also profiled itself through its community involvement. For both CIVIS and Stockholm University, this partnership means new exciting opportunities for academic collaboration and exchange”, says Astrid Söderbergh Widding, President, Stockholm University.

The purpose of CIVIS is to facilitate cooperation across national borders and to increase the mobility of students, teachers and other staff. Within the alliance, programs and courses will be made available to students at the various universities and new joint educations will be built up. CIVIS also provides opportunities for research collaborations and collaborative projects with external partners.

In a press release from University of Glasgow, Rachel Sandison, Vice Principal, External Relations, says:
“In this post-Brexit landscape, Glasgow continues to consider itself a proudly European institution with much to contribute to, and many benefits to be had from, collaboration with European partners.”
