Why did you apply to the International master’s programme in Environmental Social Science?

I have a Bachelor in business administration and economics from the University of Hohenheim in Germany but felt that I wanted to change from economics to something else. I have a big passion for environmental questions and was searching for master’s programmes with that approach. That is when I found the master's programme in Environmental Social Science. I found the programme very appealing and interesting so, I decided to apply.

What do you think about the program so far?

I really like it and it has been very motivating. You start with four obligatory courses about how different levels in society can tackle environmental problems. The courses are interdisciplinary and were a good introduction to environmental social science research. It is also an international program with students from all around the world.

What do you think about the student life here at Stockholm University?

I am enjoying my time here. The good thing about Stockholm is that you have many options to make your student life fun. I especially like the campus with all its green areas.

What is your plan for the future when you finished your studies?

I have some ideas on what I want to do after my studies but no exact plan. Work places that I think can be interesting are The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the Goverment Offices , the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, or the County Administrative Board. However, the most important for me is to study something I am passionate about and hopefully leads me to a job that I will find interesting.

Do you have any advice for new students?

If you think the social science perspective of environmental issues is interesting then you will like the programme. And do not worry about your background. Even if you, like me, studied economics before you will have no problem to follow the programme. During your first semester, you have to choose a track or main field of study. And my recommendations in terms of making that decision is to start thinking about it in time and contact teachers and discuss the different tracks with them.
