Faculty in Law seminar in cooperation with Stockholm Center for International Law and Justice (SCILJ) invites to seminar In memory of Catalán: Protection under international law for UN and humanitarian personnel in conflict zones.
In Swedish Entitled: Till minne av Catalán: Folkrättsligt skydd för FN-personal och humanitär personal i konfliktområden
The Faculty of Law at Stockholm University conducts research and educates students in the Law Program in international law, not least in relation to the UN. Many students choose to work with international issues and international law later in life.
Zaida Catalán graduated from Stockholm University in 2005 and went on to work in international law, including at the UN. When she was murdered in Congo-Kinshasa, she was there as an expert in the UN Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo to investigate and document human rights violations.
Zaida's work in DRC is closely linked to what the Faculty of Law teaches and wants to work and stand up for: commitment to the rule of law, democracy, human rights, humanitarian law and the international role of the UN. The Faculty of Law wants to recognize the importance of the work Zaida and her colleagues are doing and encourage students to get involved in these issues.
Therefore, the Faculty honors Zaida with this seminar.
