We are delighted to invite you to a discussion on the increasing resort of states to the International Court of Justice with Judge Juan Manuel Gómez-Robledo on the topic "The Increasing Resort of States to the International Court of Justice: The Interplay Between Law and Politics"
Moderated by Ambassador Marie Jacobsson, former Principal Legal Advisor at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and former member of the United Nations International Law Commission
Co-organized by the Swedish Branch of the International Law Association and the Embassy of Mexico in Sweden, in co-operation with the Stockholm Centre for International Law and Justice
Judge Gómez-Robledo has been a member of the International Court of Justice since 2024. A distinguished diplomat and international lawyer, he served for many years in the Mexican Foreign Service, including as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations, Ambassador of Mexico to France and Monaco and Legal Counsellor of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Judge Gómez-Robledo is a former member of the United Nations International Law Commission, including serving as Special Rapporteur on the topic "Provisional application of treaties."
Opening remarks will be delivered by Ambassador Alejandro Alday, Ambassador of Mexico to Sweden, and Mr. John Kadelburger, President of the Swedish Branch of the International Law Association. A reception will follow after the event.
