The Stockholm Centre for International Law and Justice invites you to a seminar with Michael Rask Madsen on "The Making of international Courts and international Society"

Description:

This talk traces the origins and transformations of international courts and how they have come to play a key role in the development of international law and society. It starts with the Permanent Court of International Justice and analyses the subsequent proliferation of international and their causes and consequences.

Bio:

 

Michael Rask Madsen is a professor of European Law and Integration, at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, and director of iCourts, Centre of Excellence for International Courts. Trained as both a lawyer and sociologist, his research focuses on international law and institutions, and the evolution of the legal profession. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including International Court Authority, Oxford University Press, co-edited with KJ Alter & LR Helfer and ‘Sovereignty, Substance, and Public Support for European Courts’ Human Rights Rulings,’ American Political Science Review, co-authored with J. Mayoral, E. Voeten and A. Strezhnev.

 

The workshop has a hybrid format, either in person or on Zoom. No registration needed.
