The third Hilding Eek Memorial Lecture

Stockholm Center for International Law and Justice has the honour of inviting you to a lecture by Christine Chinkin on the topic of Violence against Women: International Human Rights Law, Criminal Law and Security

Christine Chinkin, FBA,CMG,  is the Director of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security at the London School of Economics,  a William W. Cook Global Law Professor at the University of Michigan and a member of the Bar of England and Wales and Matrix Chambers. She was previously Professor of International Law at the LSE. She is the author of many articles on international law and human rights law, in particular on the human rights of women. She is co-author of The Boundaries of International Law: a Feminist Analysis (MUP, 2000, with Hilary Charlesworth), The Making of International Law (OUP, 2007, with Alan Boyle) and of International Law and New Wars (CUP, 2017 with Mary Kaldor). In 2017, she was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the Queen’s birthday honour list for ‘services to advancing women’s human rights worldwide.’

After the lecture, there will be a reception.

The event will be opened by Vice-Chancellor Astrid Söderbergh-Widding.

Hilding Eek Memorial Lecture

Stockholm Center for International Law and Justice (SCILJ) was established on February 20, 2012 with the mission i.a. to develop research in international law and to strengthen the links between academia and practice. The Center shall have an interdisciplinary and practice oriented character and should make international law visible in public discourse. The Hilding Eek Memorial Lecture is given every other year in the memory of Hilding Eek, the distinguished Professor of International Law at Stockholm University 1956-1974.
