Elinor Hammarskjöld is the second Swedish lawyer appointed UN Legal Counsel
On February 1, Elinor Hammarskjöld, former Director-General for Legal Affairs at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, took up the very important post as the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and Legal Counsel.

Elinor participated as a moderator in our symposium "Security and the Formation and Application of International Law" in 2024. Elinor is the second Swedish lawyer to hold this position, after Hans Corell (who was the president of SCILJ between 2012 and 2021).
