The report "State of the Naltic Sea 2023 – Third HELCOM holistic assessment 2016-2021" was presented by Jannica Haldin, Deputy Secretary at HELCOM. She stressed that the state of the Baltic Sea is yet not satisfactory and the problem of environmental toxins is a growing problem.

– Thereby not at all reducing the importance of eutrophication, but Jannica Haldin underlined that the society knows what to do to combat eutrophication, while increasing environmental toxins in the Baltic Sea is so much more difficult to master, explains Gun Rudquist, Head of Policy at Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre, who moderated the webinar.

After the presentation, a panel with participants from the EU Commission, OSPAR, the Danish ministry of Environment and WWF, discussed actions to improve the state.

 – They all agreed that even if more knowledge always is useful, we know enough to act and focus must now be on implementing actions, says Gun Rudquist.
