The Stockholm Health Day on the topic of Children and Health aims to bring together researchers to lay the foundation for a network within health economics. Evidence from economics and other domains suggests that childhood environments can have persistent impacts on numerous later life outcomes, primarily through the accumulation of human capital. Health status during infancy and early childhood play a central role in the accumulation of human capital, and explains a significant share of the variation in adult health and non-health outcomes. We hope that the workshop will provide a venue where researchers can discuss ideas, present new findings, receive feedback, and start new collaborations.

Keynote speaker is professor Janet Currie from Princeton University. Currie is a pioneer in the economic analysis of child development. Her current research focuses on socioeconomic differences in health and access to health care, environmental threats to health, the important role of mental health, and the long-run impact of health problems in pregnancy and early childhood.

We invite researchers at all stages of their career to submit (1) extended abstracts for participating in short presentation sessions or (2) full papers for longer presentations followed by comments from an assigned discussant. Please submit your contributions or queries to workshop@sofi.su.se by August 15, 2022.

Date and location: October 20-21, 2022 at Stockholm University.

The workshop is intended for researchers in economics. A dinner for workshop participants will be held on Thursday October 20. We gratefully acknowledge financial support from Jan Wallanders och Tom Hedelius stiftelse and Tore Browaldhs stiftelse.

Looking forward to seeing you in Stockholm!
