Do you want to contribute to documenting Storglaciären's change?

E-stenen
E-stenen

You can do it here in the Tarfala valley, by taking a picture of Storglaciären from the so-called E-stone and sending it to tarfala@su.se

We are grateful if you would like to share your picture of Storglaciären taken from the E-stone with us, so that we can continue documenting change. The pictures will eventually be made available in a database.

The images, taken from the same position and angle, show changes

The E-stone is named after the geographer and photographer Fredrik Enquist who took photographs of Swedish glaciers during the early 20th century when the swedish glaciers reached their greatest extent in recent times, as a result of a cold period known as the Little Ice Age.

Enquist photographed Storglaciären from the  E-stone in 1910 and many researchers have done the same in later decades. Images taken from the same position and angle clearly show the changes in the Storglaciären's extent. The images here show Enquist's 1910 photo and a photo taken 113 years later by TRS visiting scientist Jeff la Frenierre in 2023.
