Pedagogical ambassador project

The idea is to build pedagogical competence by focusing on the different pedagogical environments in which university teachers operate. Project funding for pedagogical ambassadorship in 2025 will be announced in spring 2024.

Pedagogical ambassador

  • Leads a pedagogical development project at their own departments.
  • The project is co-funded by CeUL for one year.
  • Provides support to colleagues by leading pedagogical discussions, initiating and running teacher days.

What is the Pedagogical ambassador project?

In 2015, we launched the Pedagogical ambassadors project to stimulate pedagogical development in the university's departments.

Pedagogical ambassadors build pedagogical competence directly in their teaching environment

A growing body of research shows the connection between high quality education and a locally active, critically developing discussion on educational issues in the everyday life of teachers. Such a discussion can be facilitated, stimulated and developed with the help of partners, so-called pedagogical ambassadors, people who work for a period of time on pedagogical development in their own environment at their departments on behalf of Centre for the Advancement of University Teaching (CeUL).

Leads development project at their own department

The project consists of CeUL co-financing a department with 20-25 percent for a pedagogical ambassador for one year. Each pedagogical ambassador will lead a pedagogical development project within their own organisation, which aims to stimulate the pedagogical infrastructure at the department. This project must be anchored in the department management and preferably be linked to other pedagogical development projects at the department. The pedagogical ambassador will also work to support colleagues, lead pedagogical discussions in the form of seminars, for example, and initiate and run teacher days in relation to issues that are relevant to the teaching staff at the department. A first activity involves conducting a needs analysis and then formulating a project plan with clear goals for what you hope to achieve. The project plan is discussed with the CeUL director and another educational developer, who is appointed as a mentor for the specific educational ambassador. All pedagogical ambassadors will meet regularly to support and inspire each other in a series of seminars.

The project with pedagogical ambassadors at Stockholm University is explored and described in a research article published in the journal Higher Education. The study is based on an online survey with 17 pedagogical ambassadors during the years 2015-2018:
