Sept. 30 is the International Day of Translation, Hieronymus Day. This is a good opportunity to have students of Arabic and Chinese studies at our Department present their translations which resulted from course work.

The texts presented will cover different genres: poetry, the novel, essays and the short story. Students of Arabic studies are going to present text passages by the following writers: Sinan Antoun (Iraqi novelist and poet, living in the USA) and Mahmoud Darwish (Palestinian poet).

Students of Chinese studies will present texts by the following contemporary Hong Kong writers: Xi Xi, Ma Ka Fai and Chan Ho Kei.

Following the public reading there will be a podium discussion on the student’s experiences with translation in the language pairs Arabic-Swedish and Chinese-English.
