UL2 Bas (equivalent to 4,5 credits)
Course
Date: Friday 26 September 2025
Time: 09.00 – 15.00
Location: Course start on campus
An higher education pedagogy advanced course. UL2 Bas provides opportunity to explore your own area of interest and to create your own combination of courses, choosing an in-depth course in higher education pedagogy to study in parallel or another semester.
This course is aimed at university teachers with experience of teaching and previous higher education pedagogical training, Professional development course 1 or equivalent. Participants are also expected to have educational responsibilities in addition to their own teaching, for example being responsible for a module/unit, course, or programme.
In this course, you will have the opportunity to learn more about teaching and learning, deepen your understanding of a higher education pedagogical issue and explore issues relevant to your own pedagogical practice. With support from fellow participants and course leaders, you may learn more about how your students develop understanding in your subject, or how you can enhance the learning environment in your educational context. The course is open to all university teachers at Stockholm University and within the Stockholm Trio, regardless of subject area.
About the course
The course UL2 Bas corresponds to three weeks of study (equivalent to 4.5 credits). The course is designed to offer the participants a greater choice and flexibility of what and how to learn during the course. Participants aiming to qualify for academic positions requiring fulfilment of 10 weeks course participation in higher education pedagogy, can combine UL2 Bas with an optional in-depth course of at least 2 weeks (corresponding to 3 credits) to obtain the necessary five weeks following the basic university course. You choose when to study the parallel in-depth course that you apply for separately. If you choose to study UL2 Bas in parallel with an in-depth higher education course, you have the opportunity to use the knowledge from both courses to deepen one area you are particularly interested in.
Course content and structure
Upon completion of the course, participants are expected to be able to:
- Identify and explore educational issues relevant for their own teaching and learning practice, using theory and research and own and others’ experiences.
- Utilize and analyse own and others’ experiences of teaching and learning within their subject or context.
- Propose and communicate possible educational development based on the result of exploring own teaching and learning practice and supported by choice of relevant literature.
The course includes four obligatory course meetings, including two full days on-campus, and two online seminars. Participation in course meetings is mandatory, and the first session cannot be compensated for. Participants unable to attend the first session are referred to a future course offering. Between course meetings, participants are offered group supervision, support in searching for relevant literature and identifying the scope of your individual project. All course participants are expected to conduct peer-reviews to learn from and help each other develop the individual projects.
UL2 Bas is bilingual and will be adapted as far as possible to the participant’s preference of discussing and reading in English or Swedish. Joint course meetings are conducted in English but supervision, small group discussions and individual literature can be adapted to preferred choice of either Swedish or English.
Regardless of whether you choose to take an in-depht course in parallel with UL2 Bas or during a different term, you apply for the courses separately. If you aim to qualify for academic positions requiring fulfilment of 10 weeks course participation in higher education pedagogy, you need to combine UL2 Bas with an in-depth course of at least 2 weeks (corresponding to 3 credits), meaning that your “combination course” cannot be an introductory course or the research/doctoral supervision course.
