How do you use digital technology to support student learning? In this course you develop your skills in creating and using digital materials for teaching. You will also cultivate a critical perspective on how digital tools may benefit student learning.
In-depth course for those who have previous teaching experiences and completed a basic course in higher education teaching and learning, UL1 or equivalent. No prior experiences of using digital technology in your teaching is required. The course is aimed at supporting the development of digital competencies for teachers at Stockholm University, Karolinska Institutet and KTH (Stockholm Trio) and, corresponds to two weeks of full-time studies (equivalent to 3 credits).
About the course
During the course, you will create digital course materials and design course modules for publication on a learning platform (Canvas LMS). You will work both independently and collaboratively with your course peers. There will be opportunities to develop your own teaching materials and receive feedback on learning activities where your students will utilise different digital tools. Additionally, you will engage in peer-learning by providing feedback on your peers’ digital ‘learning objects’.
Through readings, written reflections, and assignments, you will deepen your understanding of how digital technology can support learning. Upon completing the course, you will be expected to contribute to the development of digital learning environments by making informed decisions on how to best use digital solutions in your own teaching.
Content and structure
The course includes six mandatory course meetings of which two are campus meetings and four meetings are online via zoom. Between and during course meetings, you will create and review digital course materials, collaborate and engage in peer-learning. You are also expected to interact with peers using the discussion forum in the learning platform. The written assignments and creation of digital materials should be based on research literature and resources that offer practical guidance.
The course includes the following themes:
- digital competence in higher education teaching and learning
- designing online and blended course modules
- interactive and Collaborative learning with the use of digital tools
