The subject of the project is on water quality. We will mostly work with the interactions of sunlight in the water. We aim to understand how we can use the sunlight to derive information about the water quality status. We do this by observing the water colour and water clarity. These information, will be collected to support international water quality monitoring programs. We will build a standard instrument to measure water clarity, and we will use some mobile apps to find out the water colour. The course is concerned with the understanding of water quality monitoring using the observed colours in natural waters. Using a participatory science approach, the course aims to empower students to perform community based environmental monitoring of water colour and water clarity and use these data for decision support.
