Ewa Machotka promoted to professor in Japanese language and culture

We are happy and proud to congratulate Ewa Machotka on her promotion to Professor in Japanese language and culture at Stockholm University.

This is in recognition of her contributions in scientific publication, teaching, mentoring, and academic leadership.

Ewa Machotka joined the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies in 2017, prior to which she held a position as Assistant Professor in the Art and Visual Culture of Japan at Leiden University and Curator of Japanese Art at the National Museum in Krakow, Poland. She obtained her PhD in 2008 in History of Art, Gakushuin University, Tokyo, Japan.

Ewa Machotkas research is focused on art history and particularly intercultural and interdisciplinary research on Japanese visual arts. Her scholarship covers a range of art media and artistic phenomena from the early modern period to the present. Since 2021 she is also visiting researcher at the International Joint Digital Archiving Center for Japanese Art and Culture, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan.
